DESCRIPTION
When one machine is no longer the right answer
As a site grows, the honest choice is often not a bigger single set but several machines running together. Two 500 kW units cover a load that a single 1 MW machine covers, yet they keep redundancy: when one goes down for service the site is not dark, and at light load only the sets that are needed run. The problem is that paralleling is where most poorly specified power projects come unstuck — load sharing, protection and synchronising are engineering decisions, not accessories.
This control system is built for that case. It synchronises, shares load and protects the machines as a group, and it is configured against the number and size of the sets in your plant.
- ApplicationTwo or more generator sets operating in parallel
- FunctionsSynchronising, load sharing, group protection
- Typical plant scaleFrom a few hundred kW to megawatt installations
- OperationAutomatic start and stop of sets according to load
- SupervisionRemote monitoring available on request
Scope of a synchronising control system
| Item | Configuration |
|---|---|
| System type | Parallel synchronising control system for diesel generator sets |
| Number of sets | Confirmed per project; the panel is built for the actual machine count |
| Machines controlled | Generator sets of the rating and make supplied for the project |
| Synchronising | Automatic synchronising of each incoming set to the bus |
| Load sharing | Active and reactive load shared between running sets |
| Protection | Group protection settings coordinated with the individual set protection |
| Set management | Sets started and stopped according to the load on the bus |
| Switchgear | Panel and breaker arrangement built for the plant layout |
| Monitoring | Remote monitoring and alarm reporting available on request |
| Metering and control supply | Confirmed per project layout and site supply |
| Packing | Strong wooden case with waterproof cloth |
| Typical duty | Factories and plants, commercial buildings, district and campus supply, prime-power stations |
Why buyers choose parallel operation
- Redundancy instead of a single point of failure. Maintenance on one set does not take the site off supply, which matters in hotels, hospitals and production plants.
- Load-matched running. Sets are started and stopped against the bus load, so a plant running at part load does not keep every machine turning.
- Staged investment. Capacity can be added as the site grows by bringing another set onto the same control scheme rather than replacing the first machine.
- Service continuity across the site. Because the plant shares load, one set can be taken out for scheduled service while the others carry the demand.
- Protection designed for the group. Settings are coordinated for the whole plant, not just for one machine, which is what prevents nuisance tripping when sets run together.
- Monitoring that suits an unattended plant. Remote monitoring is available where the plant room is not permanently staffed.
The maker behind the control system
Jiangsu Qingzhiteng Power Equipment Co., Ltd manufactures diesel and gas generator sets in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, covering an inland diesel range of 3 kVA to 3000 kVA and a marine range of 12 kW to 500 kW. Parallel systems, sets with ATS, low-noise canopies, container units and remote monitoring configurations are produced in the same works, which is why the control system and the machines it manages can be specified together. The company exports to more than 80 countries on five continents.
How a parallel system is built and checked
- The machine count, ratings and single-line arrangement are confirmed from the project information.
- Panel cubicles are assembled for the actual number of incoming sets, with a metering and control module for each.
- Wiring is completed and continuity-checked against the panel drawing.
- Control and protection settings are configured and documented.
- The panels are tested as a system before dispatch.
- Units are cased with waterproof cloth and the packing list is issued with the shipping documents.
Plants served
Production plant, Southeast Asia
A factory expanding in stages wanted to add capacity without discarding its existing set. Two further machines were brought onto one synchronising scheme so the plant could grow in steps.
Commercial complex, Middle East
The requirement was supply continuity during maintenance of any one machine. Parallel operation was selected so a set could be taken out of service while the remaining units carried the building.
Remote power station, Africa
A site with weak grid supply needed several sets working as a group under changing load. The control system was configured for the machine count and the load profile the operator described.
Questions asked before ordering a parallel scheme
How many sets can one system manage?
It is built for the machine count of your project. Send the intended number of sets and their ratings, together with the single-line arrangement, and the panel will be configured accordingly.
Can you add a set to an existing plant later?
That depends on the arrangement of the existing panels, so we need the existing single-line diagram and the machine details before answering. If the scheme is planned for staged growth from the start, capacity for later sets can be allowed for at the outset.
Do you supply the generator sets as well as the control system?
Yes. Sets and control system can be supplied together, which is the usual arrangement, or the control system can be configured for machines you already own once their details are provided.
Is remote monitoring available?
It is available on request and is normally specified for unattended plants. Tell us what you need to see and the communication route available at site, and it will be priced in the quotation.
What are the MOQ, lead time and payment terms?
These depend on the machine count, the panel scope, the destination and the payment method, so they are stated in the quotation. Provide the project details and we will quote on that basis.
Where a single machine is enough, compare the container type sets and the MTU series; the full product range lists the power options that are normally paralleled.
Send the single-line arrangement with the enquiry
Tell us the number of sets and their ratings, the existing or planned switchgear, whether the plant is attended or remotely supervised, the quantity of panels required and the destination port. That information is what the panel configuration is built from.
