The enclosure is a structure, and it has to fit the set underneath it

Buyers often come to a canopy as an afterthought, once the set has been ordered and a neighbour has complained about the noise. The result is a canopy that restricts the air path, overheats the machine on a long run, or leaves the control panel behind a door that cannot be opened with the machine running. A canopy is a fabricated structure with a job: keep weather out, keep sound in, and keep the air moving in the right direction.

We build canopies for generator sets from small three-phase machines up to large units, matched to the set they house rather than sold as a universal box with the same footprint for every rating.

What is specified in a canopy build

Item	Configuration
Product type	Canopy enclosure fabricated for a diesel generator set
Construction	Steel sheet on a frame, painted; sections arranged for the machine inside
Access	Lockable hinged doors with openings for filters, panel and service points
Panel position	Control panel readable and operable from outside the enclosure
Air path	Intake louvers and discharge section sized to the radiator and the site ambient
Exhaust	Outlet arranged for the exhaust route of the installation
Lifting	Lifting points incorporated in the canopy frame
Sound attenuation	Absorbent lining used where a target level at the boundary has to be met; level confirmed against the build
Weather protection	Rain and dust protection suited to an outdoor position
Base	Canopy mounts on the set's own base frame, keeping the fuel tank arrangement intact
Typical installations	Sets moved outdoors from a plant room, boundary and rooftop positions, sites where neighbours are close
Packing	Strong wooden case with waterproof cloth

Sound attenuated steel canopy on a diesel generator set with lockable service doors — A canopy build on a set from this range: the louvers on each side form the cooling air path, and the control panel sits behind the service door so it can be read without opening the machine section.

What to check before specifying a canopy

The air path is sized to the radiator, not to the box. Intake and discharge are arranged around the cooling requirement, which is where an under-specified canopy causes overheating on long runs.
Service points stay reachable. Filters, the panel and inspection covers are positioned so routine work does not require dismantling the enclosure.
The panel can be read with the doors closed. For unattended sets this is what makes an alarm visible at a glance.
Lifting points are part of the structure. A canopy that cannot be lifted safely is a handling problem on site, so the points are integrated rather than improvised.
Attenuation is set against a target level. Where there is a boundary or a neighbour, the lining is chosen for the level you need at that distance, not for the lowest price.
The base-frame arrangement is preserved. The canopy fits over the existing base and its fuel tank, so the machine underneath does not have to be rebuilt.

The works behind these enclosures

Jiangsu Qingzhiteng Power Equipment Co., Ltd manufactures diesel and gas generator sets in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, including low-noise canopy units, container builds, sets with ATS, parallel systems and remote-monitoring configurations. Its inland diesel programme covers 3 kVA to 3000 kVA and the marine programme 12 kW to 500 kW, and units ship to more than 80 countries on five continents.

How a canopy build is produced

The set rating and its radiator air requirement are confirmed.
The canopy frame and panels are fabricated to that footprint.
Door positions are set around the panel, filters and service points.
Intake and discharge sections are formed and checked against the air path.
The lining is fitted where a target sound level applies.
The canopy is mounted on the set, the exhaust outlet is connected and the finish is completed.
The unit is cased with waterproof cloth for shipment.

Installations of this kind

Urban commercial site, Southeast Asia

A set previously installed indoors was moved to a boundary position where noise reached neighbouring premises, so the enclosure was specified against a level at that boundary rather than on price.

Rooftop installation, Middle East

An indoor plant room was not available, so a canopy was supplied to protect the machine from sun and rain while keeping the service doors usable from the roof walkway.

Small workshop, Africa

A compact three-phase set needed weather protection on an open yard. The canopy was built to the set's own footprint rather than a standard box.

Questions buyers ask about canopies

Can I add a canopy to a set I already own?

In many cases yes, provided the set's dimensions, radiator arrangement and panel position are known. Send photographs and the measurements, or the machine details, and the canopy can be assessed against them.

How much noise does a canopy actually remove?

It depends on the lining and the build, and the level is confirmed against the canopy specified. Tell us the acceptable level and the distance to the nearest sensitive point, and the build will be matched to that requirement.

Will a canopy make the set run hotter?

Not if the air path is sized correctly, which is why the intake and discharge sections are arranged around the radiator and the site ambient. A canopy that restricts airflow is a common cause of overheating, so we specify against the cooling requirement rather than the box size.

Are the doors lockable and can the panel be read with them closed?

Yes. Doors are lockable with service openings, and the panel is positioned so its readings are visible without opening the machine section, which matters on unattended sites.

What are the MOQ, lead time and payment terms?

They depend on the size, the build specification, the quantity, the destination and the payment method, and are stated in the quotation. Send the set details and the site conditions and we will quote on that basis.

Complete canopy-mounted sets are described in the silent type generator and container type generator pages; the full product range lists the other build forms.

Send the set details and the site conditions

Tell us the set rating and model, the radiator arrangement, the distance to the nearest sensitive point, the ambient and weather conditions, whether the position is indoor or outdoor, the quantity and the destination port. That is what the canopy build is specified from.
